Is Blogging a team sport? Part 2

by Adam Bean on January 3, 2010

Let me share this little story with you of how blogging as a team  actually works and the results.

This isn’t how I would think it would work!! This is a real account of what actually happened.

I headed over  to the unstrapped blog one morning to read the latest post. On this particular day it was a guest post (click here for the post) from Jason Markow who is the Think Here blog owner.

I got a lot out of reading the post so I added a comment. Now Jason is exceptional at interacting with people online. He always promptly answers blog comments, and will follow you up via twitter if you are on there, to let you know he has responded to your comments.

So I get an @ message on Twitter saying I just responded to your comment, so straight away I am thinking hey this guy is worth checking out further.

After reading and commenting on a few of his blog posts, I find that we think along very similar lines and share a common interest in social media for small business and surfing.

So I start looking around his site to see what I can learn from him.

Looking for idea’s I can use to  improve my own blog and add more value to my readers. This is a huge hint: there is no need to reinvent the wheel, find someone that is successful and do what they do.

Just do it in your own unique way, successful people have successful habits, so if you do what they do guess what is going to happen to you? That’s right you are going to have success as well!!!

SOB

So I am looking around his blog for idea’s when I come across  this  SOB badge just here on the left, I wonder what this is about I thought. So I clicked on it to check it out. Go on do it I know you want to!!! Click on the SOB button and have a look around Liz Strauss site then come back and finish of this post, I promise I will wait for you LOL.

Okay so your back let’s get back to it.

I am on Liz’s blog and I notice that you can get your blog recognized as a “Successful Outstanding Blog ” if you have a blog with great information on it that contributes to the blogging community. What you do is write a post or article about the value of a blog to a business. Something that adds real value to the business blogging community.

So I wrote a “blog is your business hub online” and submitted it to Liz via email and followed it up with a Twitter DM and the rest is history.

Remember what I told you earlier about emulating successful people, is it starting to sink in??

Now there was one other badge on Jason’s site so I figure I had better check that out as well!!
This badge on the left here is for Alex Fisher’s YPBLOGS site that you have signed up to right?

I submit my blog to Alex and add his badge to my site, I get an email back from Alex saying he has to check out my site first, which he does and then I get another email saying if I would like my blog to be featured on YPBLOGS, write a relevant post and send through the link.

And so the Two part series “Is Blogging a Team Sport” was inspired!!
I hope by now you are realizing the awesome power of blogging as a team sport, and how important interacting and adding value is to your blogging.

So now it’s over to you. What works for you? please share it in the comments section below so that we can all benefit.

Always remember Beanie’s three rules to social media.

  • Engage
  • Interact
  • Add Value

Get out there and make a difference.

If a boilermaker from the Sunshine Coast can do it, So Can You!!!

Cheers Adam Bean
